KVOE a locally owned leader in Kansas mid-market radio has an immediate opening for an ambitious, self-starting individual to help lead our award-winning news department. Our last two News Directors were here for 15 and 20 years respectively, so you will be part of a real Live and Local family. Our three station cluster airs over 80 local newscasts and on-air updates weekly, with all on-air stories posted online and frequent daily alerts on Facebook and Twitter.
Our current News Department consists of 2.5 people during normal operations and severe weather. Morning and Midday newscasts, helping book morning show and Talk of Emporia guests, story writing, and website/social media updates are chief responsibilities.
Crisp writing style, clean delivery, passion for reporting local stories, desire to go beyond daily assignments, leadership ability, and willingness to be involved in our community are all prerequisites. Severe weather coverage is a must. Schedule flexibility and computer skills are necessary. Experience with Skylla, Cool Edit, KLZ Newsroom and basic cell phone photo/video skills are preferred but will train. Two years of News experience preferred. Position starts at 38 to 40K.
