Name Matt Meany
About Let me start off with this, my name is Matt Meany, I was born June 16th 1989 which makes me currently 24 years old, and I love to talk about anything and everything but above all else I have a deep interest analyzing sports on any level. Growing up in a house full of boys, my two brothers and I would wake up early in the morning to watch the highlights of the west coast games on Fox Sports Net. I fell in love with sports at a young age and it became a passion of mine to write and discuss about sports. Now at 24 years of age talking sports has become second nature for me as I continue to pursue my dream of working in sports broadcasting. After attending high school in Thiells, New York at North Rockland High School and graduating in May of 2007, I was accepted into the State University of New York at Potsdam College and began to attend Potsdam College in the Fall of 2007. As freshmen in college I joined the swim team after being recruited in high school by the head coach. I also joined the campus newspaper as a sports writer and was elected sports editor after my Fall semester. At the end of the Spring 2008 semester I was named to the SUNY Athletic Conference Commissioners List and All-Academic Team. As a Sophomore I continued with the campus newspaper revamping the sports section with new, easy to read content, updated logos, pictures and a weekly column. At the end of the Spring 2009 Semester I was named to the SUNYAC Commissioners List and All-Academic Team. Prior to the Fall semester of my Junior year I declared my major in Communications. I continued to work with the newspaper, compete with the swim team as well as intern for the Potsdam College's Sports Information Director. During my Senior year I groomed the successor of my Sports Editor position with the newspaper, was elected Captain of the Men's Swim Team, was inducted to the Lambda Pi Eta National Communication Association Honor Society, and graduated in May of 2011 with a Bachelors Degree in Communication. Post graduation I worked as a lifeguard at the Stony Point(NY) Town Municipal Pool while searching for jobs in sports print/media/writing/blogging. I was contacted by a writer and began writing for the fantasy football section of an online sports betting website. On top of writing I worked at a local marina and boat service shop. During the summer of 2012 I applied for an internship in with WFAS Westchester(NY) Radio and began interning with the stations Promotions department in December of 2012. On my first day as an intern I was asked to co-host with my now good friend Mike Allan on 'Mike Allan in the Morning". I would continue to intern with both the promotions and programming department, co-hosting with Mike in the mornings, while in the afternoon and evenings I would drive the station vehicle to promotional events. Upon completing the internship I was asked to come back for the Spring Semester internship with WFAS due to the cancellations in the December semester from inclement weather. I then completed the Spring internship and was hired by both the Promotions and Programming departments in May of 2013. I would assume a number of positions within the station including assistant producer, call screener, sports news anchor, co-host, traffic reporter and board operator for the 'Orlando on the Morning' program on WFAS-AM 1230 as well as filling in as host of the Orlando in the Morning Show. On the promotions side I was a promotions assistant, remote engineer and street teamer. As I continued to gain experience in radio broadcasting, I knew that I would need to get into a larger market to take the next step up the ladder. Luckily I found an open position at WABC Radio in New York, applied, was interviewed and then hired as a board operator/producer. While I am currently working at WABC my duties include board operations, live traffic, weather, and news reports, building, arranging, playing and logging commercials, producing sound for a number of local programming, and call screening. WABC has provided me with a wealth of experience and I continue to learn every minute I am in the studio. I pride myself on being a sponge taking in new information, learning how to use it and make me an all around better person.
